Layered Gingerbread

If you are looking for one of the most impressive Christmas cakes, this gingerbread cake is definitely your best choice!

Not only is it an impressive cake, but it is also absolutely delicious! We started with two thick moist gingerbread cakes filled with spices and molasses.

Then we whipped some butter and cream cheese into sweet cinnamon cream cheese frosting, which matched this classic cake perfectly.

The term "gingerbread" refers to a large group of baked goods, usually flavored with the following ingredients:

Ginger
clove
nutmeg
Cinnamon
Molasses
It is traditionally sweetened with honey, granulated sugar or brown sugar...or a combination of the three!

This gingerbread recipe is made with a mixture of sugar, applesauce and molasses.

Molasses and applesauce are also used with butter and oil to keep the cake moist.

To give it a perfect five-spice flavor, we use cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves and a pinch of salt.

Although the list of recipe ingredients may seem daunting, don't worry, half of the list is made from spices!

This cinnamon cream cheese frosting is one of my favorite frostings. It's smooth, creamy and sweet, and it's heated with a moderate amount of cinnamon and maple syrup.

I have used it on many of my big cakes, and it is always very flattering! You will always find it spreading thickly on my pumpkin cake!

To prepare this frosting, we mix butter and cream cheese until smooth. Add maple syrup, vanilla and cinnamon.

Add the powdered sugar and stir until the frosting is smooth and whipped perfectly! Spread it generously on the cake and enjoy licking those blenders.

How to store gingerbread cakes

Because of cream cheese, this cake should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

However, this cake tastes best when it is close to room temperature, as long as it is cooled slightly.

In order to reach this perfect temperature for the best taste and texture, please take the cake out of the refrigerator 30-45 minutes before it is ready to eat. Let the cake heat up on the counter.

Holiday decoration ideas for cakes

To remake the decorations you see on this Christmas cake, please arrange the following on the frosted cake:

Fresh rosemary
Cinnamon sticks
star anise
Fresh cranberries

This cake is very moist, full of spices, and coated with the most delicious cinnamon cream cheese frosting! This is the perfect Christmas dessert recipe that will impress you!
