This week I will share with you a classic Christmas recipe... homemade eggnog! It’s now Christmas, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy delicious iced eggnog to prepare for the holiday.

2 cups cinnamon eggnog

What is eggnog made of?

Want to know what it takes to make eggnog at home? Collect these ingredients:

Whole milk

Whole cloves

Cinnamon powder: If necessary, add a little garnish.

Nutmeg powder

yolk

granulated sugar

Heavy cream

Vanilla extract

Spiced Rum: Bourbon whiskey is also available, but both are optional.

Do you have to use heavy cream?

Heavy cream will give you the thickest and creamiest final product, but you can definitely use half if you want.

Half and half will be thinner and less rich, but it's not obvious to most eggnog fans!

How to make eggnog :

Follow these simple steps to make this custard eggnog in minutes:

To boil milk: In a small saucepan, combine milk, cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. Slowly boil the milk mixture

Whisk the eggs: In a medium bowl, combine the egg yolks and sugar. Stir together until the color becomes fluffy and pale, about 2 to 3 minutes.

Add milk: first add a small amount of heated milk mixture to the eggs, stir constantly to temper the eggs. Don't add the hot milk too fast, otherwise the eggs will be boiled.

Mixing: Continue to add a small amount of milk to the eggs, stirring constantly, until all the milk is added and well mixed.

Cooking: Return to the sauce and cook over medium heat until slightly viscous, covering the back of the spoon with the mixture, about 3 to 5 minutes. Don't let the mixture boil.

Strain: Remove from the heat source and filter out the cloves.

Cool and serve: Let the mixture cool for an hour, then add heavy cream, vanilla extract, and spiced rum. Chill for several hours or overnight before serving.

Can you make eggnog in advance?

You can make this eggnog in advance. In fact, with a little aging, the flavor will be richer! Therefore, if you decide to make eggnog in advance, put it in an airtight container and refrigerate it until you are ready to drink it.

Does eggnog contain no alcohol?

Traditionally, eggnog contains spirits such as spiced rum or bourbon. But eggnog can definitely be alcohol-free! If you want to omit the spiced rum, it will still be full of rich creamy, Christmas flavor. 🙂

How does homemade eggnog taste?

If you have never drunk eggnog before, you may want to know what it tastes like. After all, eggs are not added to drinks every day! But the truth is, eggnog tastes like a glass of melted ice cream with a festive spirit. Eggnog and ice cream have many common ingredients, so their flavor characteristics are surprisingly similar.

Tips for serving this holiday favorite

Here are some tips for serving the best eggnog during the holidays:

Be careful when boiling eggnog: It is important that the mixture does not boil, as the eggs may coagulate, so occasionally stir the eggnog and do not cook the eggnog for more than 5 minutes.

Creamy eggnog: Reduce the amount of milk slightly and add a little heavy cream.

Serve with whipped cream: sprinkle extra cinnamon on top!

Cold or hot food: You can provide refrigerated or warm eggnog, whichever you prefer!

How to store leftovers

Eggnog should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator until you are ready to enjoy it again. Make sure to shake it before serving to prevent it has settled. Homemade eggnog can be stored in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.

Can you freeze homemade eggnog ?

Eggnog can be frozen in an airtight container, but it is best to drink fresh. However, if you decide to freeze it, make sure to leave an inch or two in the container and write the date on the top of the lid.
